Curated by Lisa Sugar, the founder and president of ever-so-popular PopSugar, Beauty by PopSugar is the brainchild of Pamela Baxter, formerly the C.E.O. of LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics - North America and president of Christian Dior Couture. Baxter and Sugar worked together to produce a very pop collection of colors that is sweet as sugar (pun intended!).
According to Sugar, the namesake beauty line was literally inspired by 100 million PopSugar junkies. “There’s no guessing about what products women want—they tell us, we listen,” Sugar said. According to their stats, 33 percent of the millennials in the U.S. read PopSugar, as do one-third of women ages 18-49. What’s the magic formula? It’s all in the content, which boosts confidence in women of all ages across all platforms.
Just ask Kate Hudson, who was center stage at PopSugar Playground, an interactive experiential beauty and health event that took place June 9 and 10 in N.Y.C. “I like Chanel, although I have to say PopSugar gave me some makeup and there is one particular color of lip gloss that I have not taken out of my bag since I got it. And I don’t just say that! Their colors are good!”
The PopSugar Playground drew an estimated crowd of 10,000 who were there to get in on everything from Body by Simone workouts to feel-good spirit strategist Gabby Bernstein to panel discussions with Hudson along with Arianna Huffington and Mindy Kaling, who was interviewed by Elaine Welteroth. Kaling shared with the audience how she once structured her ambitions and made a rigid list. But now as a 38-year-old single mom, when “single mom” is a goal that was never on that list, Kaling recognizes, “It was very helpful to me when I was young, but it wasn’t until recently that I was like, ‘I just need to let all of it go and be O.K. with it.”
