In a time where everything feels like it’s skewing younger, kudos to CoverGirl for keeping it real by embracing cultural diversity and age-defying attitude. First with Nura Afia, the hijab-wearing beauty influencer and now with 69-year-old Maye Musk.
Musk has been modeling for five decades, but experienced a new burst of fame a few years ago, when the world began to say, “Oh my goodness, Elon, how gorgeous is your mother?” Having produced “genius child” Elon Musk—“that’s what we called him when he was growing up, because he was,“ Maye said during a recent lunch—the Musk matriarch became a pop-culture icon on the level with her son’s creations like Tesla. When she was featured in Beyoncé’s music video “Haunted” in 2013, things really started to take off. Having graced the pages of Vanity Fair and having walked two shows during New York Fashion Week this fall, she’s been having fun while keeping up her good looks. Being a certified nutrition dietitian doesn’t hurt, and with moderate exercise plus good diet, she makes it look effortless.
And her thoughts on beauty? “It kept me working in this industry for so long . . . It’s a big part of my role as a dietitian, too—helping people feel happy, healthy, and confident exactly as they are. With wearing makeup a part of my job as a model, one might think I’d get tired of it, but I absolutely love it,” Musk said in a press release.
